Designing Dreams: A Design Entrepreneur’s Journey
Share
As I take my first steps into the world of entrepreneurship, I find myself on the precipice of a dream. I am about to start my own full-service graphic design business, a venture that has been a long time in the making. My heart races with anticipation and a touch of fear, but I am ready.
My customers, much like me, are women aged 25 to 55, who own boutiques and craft businesses. They are hardworking individuals, often juggling a second job or seeking to generate an income from home, all while raising their families. They are the backbone of their households and their communities, often found at consignment booths and attending trunk shows. They are my inspiration.
As I embark on this journey, I realize the importance of identifying my target audience. These are the individuals I aim my marketing strategies towards, the ones who will help my business grow. These are the people that can benefit from my designs the most and help them in accomplishing their goals and dreams. Understanding who they are is paramount. It simplifies the process of discovering new customers and drawing potential purchasers to my website, thereby boosting conversion rates and amplifying sales.
My audience can be of any size or attribute, depending on the services I plan to offer. However, there are three main categories I need to consider as a new entrepreneur:
Location. This involves groups that divide the market based on geographic location, allowing me to serve a specific area better.
Interests. This is built around psychographics and includes attitudes, personality, opinions, and the lifestyle of my audience.
I ask myself: Who is the typical purchaser of my service? What are their characteristics? How old are they? I gather this data to form a buyer persona and incorporate it into my business strategy. This will be invaluable when I’m crafting the content for my website and planning my marketing campaigns. Even if I don’t have a product yet, I can still identify a specific target market and develop a service that caters to their needs.
And so, with a clear vision and a determined heart, I take my first step into the world of graphic design entrepreneurship. I am ready to make my mark, ready to help these incredible women bring their businesses to life through design. In retrospect, I am a designer of dreams! This is my journey, and it starts now.
